Rice Paddy Encounter

“They ignored her warning not to plant in the old fields. No one else in the village now remembered the dangers of that ancient Mud.

She had fallen out of practice at channeling the protective flame of her ancestors but now that sacred light was the only chance at saving herself & her people.”

Another travel inspired painting, this time influenced partly by the rice farmers of SaPa in Vietnam and partly by the women of the Shipibo tribe I met in the Peruvian Amazon. I was selective in which details to include. For example most of the Shipibo women have straight, jet black hair but I wanted white hair for this character to help communicate her age as we can’t see her face.
